PRESS RELEASE 040
JUDGE ADMITS EVIDENCE IN THE PRIMAVERA CASE
Guatemala, June 12, 2012. Today, at a hearing to submit evidence, Judge Gisela Reynoso of the Fourth Court of the First Criminal Instance for Drug-Related Activity and Crimes Against the Environment admitted the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office and CICIG (complementary prosecutor) in the case known as Primavera.
The evidence includes the testimonies of 20 witnesses, 84 documents, 4 expert witnesses, and material extracted from computers and USB devices.
This evidence shall be used during the proceedings being brought against Susana Luarca Saracho, Saúl Vinicio García Rivera, Mairena Liseth Ríos Trujillo, Marco Tulio España, César Augusto Galicia Prera and César Trujillo López—all of whom have been accused of forming a network that processes illegal adoptions.
BACKGROUND FACTS
The child Angely Hernández was taken on November 3, 2006 from the patio of her house in the municipality of San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala City. The Asociación Primavera children's home then used false papers to hand the child over to an adoptive family from outside of Guatemala.
CICIG is acting in the criminal proceeding as a complementary prosecutor.
