ACCUSED PARTIES IN GASOFA CASE SENT TO TRIAL

Guatemala, July 30, 2012. Judge Miguel Ángel Gálvez of the Court of the First Criminal Instance for High-Risk Matters ruled, today, that nine accused parties in the Gasofa case be sent to trial, following investigations conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) and CICIG. The judge stated that there were strong grounds on which to send the nine accused parties to public and oral trail, because of the high probability that the facts will be proven at trial. Furthermore, definitive participation was granted to CICIG as a complementary prosecutor, and the parties were called to offer evidence on August 8, 2012 at 11.00 a.m.

BACKGROUND FACTS:
The accused parties allegedly comprised a criminal association through an organized illegal group that was primarily involved in trafficking gasoline.
