PRESS RELEASE 010
CICIG REPORTS ON INVESTIGATION SUPPORT IN SIEKAVIZZA CASE
Guatemala, February 27, 2012. The International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala would like to inform public opinion of its involvement in the Cristina Siekavizza case:
CICIG has offered technical support in the investigation of the Siekavizza case at the behest of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) and in accordance with Guatemalan procedural law, CICIG's mandate and the Bilateral Cooperation Agreement signed between the two institutions.
The specialized criminalistics support involved the preparation of information analysis reports, which were conducted by CICIG analysts and filed before the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) so that the latter could assess their relevance.
At present, support is still being offered to prosecutors at the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) by processing information received by CICIG's Information and Analysis Unit.
The results of this analysis, and other previous analyses, are solely and exclusively sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP).
