MEETING BETWEEN DIPLOMATS AND PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF POLITICAL PARTY LÍDER

Guatemala, October 20, 2011. Commissioner Francisco Javier Dall'Anese Ruiz and representatives of the Guatemalan diplomatic corps held a meeting today with the presidential candidate of the political party Líder, Manuel Baldizón. At the meeting, issues such as Baldizón's plan of government regarding security and justice were discussed.

As to the question of the Attorney General's position, Baldizón stressed: "We will respect the constitutional term of the Attorney General and seek the means through which to bring continuity to her work."

He also described the work of the Commission and the Commissioner's leadership to be "satisfactory" and, therefore, he said he would support CICIG if he were to be elected.

Commissioner Dall'Anese said that, during the meeting, they covered different aspects of the candidate's plan of government, especially those concerning security and justice. "He indicated his clear intention to continue working with CICIG and strengthening the Public Prosecutor's Office." The Commissioner added that good communication with the next government would be key in fighting impunity and strengthening the justice system in the country.
