PRESS RELEASE 025

COMMISSIONER DALL'ANESE CONTINUES TO LEAD CICIG

Guatemala, May 28, 2013. The International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) hereby informs the public of the following:

  1. The contract of Commissioner Francisco Dall'Anese Ruiz runs through until September 2013.
  2. Recently, the Commissioner told the United Nations that for personal reasons, he did not wish to renew his contract.
  3. It is a falsehood that the Commissioner resigned today, because—in accordance with his contract—one month's notice must be given to do so.
  4. It is apparent that the remarks made today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs were misunderstood, because at no point did he say that the Commissioner had resigned, contrary to the reports of certain media outlets.
  5. The Commissioner and the rest of his workforce will continue to fight for justice and tackle impunity in Guatemala.
