Guatemala, April 28, 2010. In a recent visit to Vienna, Austria, Commissioner Carlos Castresana and the Deputy Director of UNODC, Francis Maertens, signed a cooperation agreement between the two organizations. The document was signed within the framework of the workshop organized by the World Bank and UNODC: "Reviewing International Responses to Transnational Organized Crime", which was held in Vienna on April 27.

In this context, the Latin America and Caribbean Team of the Integrated Progamme and Oversight Branch (IPB) organized a number of information exchange meetings with UNODC officials and experts to jointly analyze the complementary role of UNODC with regard to CICIG in Guatemala.

In regards to the Cooperation Agreement, the particular importance of clauses Two (Coordination Mechanism), Three (Area Partnership and Action Plan), Four (Centers of Excellence), Five (Donor Coordination) and Six (Monitoring) is highlighted.
