COMMISSIONER MEETS WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL

Guatemala, 28 May 2014. The CICIG Commissioner, Iván Velásquez Gómez, met today with the Attorney General of the Republic and Head of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), Thelma Esperanza Aldana Hernández, to learn more about and start to coordinate the work to be conducted by the two institutions.

During this protocol meeting, the Commissioner stressed that CICIG would continue to support the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP)—in accordance with the provisions of the CICIG mandate—and also underlined the importance of permanent dialogue in order to better coordinate investigations. To this end, the pair pledged to hold regular meetings to follow up the interinstitutional coordination plans.
