Period to resolve adoptions extended

Guatemala, May 30, 2012. The National Council for Adoptions (CNA) extended the period to conclude the processing of unresolved adoptions in accordance with the previous Adoptions Law by one year, as stipulated in Agreement No. CNA-CD-006-2012, which was published today in the Official Journal of Central America.

By means of the above, the CNA extended Agreement CNA-CD-015-2011 (signed on August 8, 2011), which provides for the rectification of the situation of children whose cases are still pending, because of the impossibility of continuing under the system in place prior to the introduction of the new Adoption Law. The Agreement also provides for resolving adoption cases involving Guatemalan children and families from the United States. The handling of these cases began before the aforementioned law came into force.

The extended period will end, according to the publication, on August 19, 2013.
