The President of the Republic, Álvaro Colom, announced the creation of the Presidential Commission to Support CICIG on March 2, 2009 with a mandate to support and complement the work undertaken by CICIG. The Presidential Commission to Support CICIG was the fruit of Governmental Agreement 65-2009 and it entered into force on March 12, 2009 for a period of three years. President Colom named Carlos Menocal as the Coordinator of the Presidential Commission, which will serve as a bridge between the Commission and CICIG.

The Presidential Commission is comprised of the Director of the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, representatives from the Private Secretariat of the President, the Office of the General Council, the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Public Defender.
