ARREST MADE IN BUS NICARAGUA CASE
Guatemala, April 08, 2011. On April 5, National Civil Police (PNC) officers and personnel of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) arrested Luis Alberto Yuman Garrido in a café in Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa Department. Yuman Garrido is charged with allegedly being involved in murdering 16 individuals who were travelling by bus from Nicaragua to Guatemala.
Yumán Garrido is charged with murdering 15 Nicaraguans and one Dutch national in Zacapa Department on November 7, 2008. He is also charged with conspiracy to traffic illegal drugs and criminal association. The proceedings are being heard before the First Court for High-Risk Matters.
In this case two convictions have been handed down and the trial of two individuals charged with participating in the same facts is set to begin on February 6, 2012.
