Today, Congresswoman Norma Torres visited the headquarters of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala, along with the United States Ambassador in Guatemala Luis Arreaga and the Political Counselor of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States, Eric Jacobstein, to exchange opinions regarding the mission of CICIG in the fight against impunity and corruption.

Congresswoman Torres highlighted the role that CICIG has in the strengthening of justice in Guatemala and the promotion of the culture of legality.

Several officials of the Commission informed the North American delegation about the activities that CICIG carries out in the investigations and litigation, as well as in the promotion of legal reforms and strengthening of justice sector institutions.

Congresswoman Torres pointed out that the new contribution of $6 million granted in the last few days to CICIG is a clear sign of the United States’ support for the mission carried out in Guatemala.
