Commissioner Ivan Velásquez Gómez participated today in the European Parliament Sub-Committee on Human Rights, Brussels, where he presented the work of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) in the fight against corruption and impunity.

In his speech, the Head of the Commission highlighted: “The problem is not between the Government and CICIG. The problem in Guatemala is the threat to the Rule of Law.”

“Certain groups are willing to destroy the rule of law and ensure impunity in Guatemala,” said the Commissioner.

He added that the last European Parliament resolution on Guatemala is crucial.

He pointed out that CICIG continues working until September 3, 2019, and will continue working with international support in the fight against corruption and impunity.
